Chicago Artists Month
Satellite Space in Pilsen (Oct. 2010)

This year the Art Center creates an exhibition and studio space in the Chicago Arts District as a part of Chicago Artists Month. As part of this year’s theme “The City as Studio” the Art Center will travel to Pilsen to install a temporary satellite studio space. Throughout the months of September and October the Art Center will be hosting a series of events and free workshops that explore a range of media and visual art practices.

Weekly workshops include the Open Studio facilitated by Executive Director Sarah Ward, the Visual Arts Workshop hosted by a different Chicago Artist each week, and the 12x12 Workshop where participants are invited to create their own piece of art to hang in the gallery. An exhibition of paintings, drawings, photographs, and collages created by Art Center youth and their art educators will be on display as well as information about the Art Center and its programs. The Art Center will host two Fundraiser Events, one for Adults with wine and hors d'oeuvres, and one for Families with craft making and cupcake decorating.

DESCRIPTIONS:
Wednesdays: Open Studios 2:30-5pm
Join us for our weekly ongoing Open Studio series facilitated by Artist and Executive Director Sarah Ward. Participants are invited to create any range of visual art pieces from painting to collage to sculpture. All materials will be provided. Program will run every Wednesday from 2:30-5pm, 9/22-10/27 except October 13th. Anyone 6 years old and up are welcome. Parents and teens are encouraged to come as well. Thursdays: Visual Arts Workshop 3:30-5pm
The South Chicago Art Center will be hiring local art educators to teach weekly Visual Arts Workshop every Thursday from 3:30-5pm, 9/23-10-27. Each week, participants will create a new art piece with different media. Projects include social justice projects, printmaking, watercolor, and drawing.

Saturdays: 12x12 Workshop 1-3pm
Join us for our weekly ongoing 12x12 Workshop series facilitated by Artist and Executive Director Sarah Ward. Local artist and residents are invited to stop by and create their own piece of art on a 12x12 surface to hang in our gallery space. All ages are welcome and all materials will be provided. Program will run Saturdays 1-3pm, 9/18-10/23. Artists are also welcome to create their own 12x12 and bring it by.

Saturday: Fee based workshop 3-5pm
This is a visual arts workshop that will be available for purchase at our September 25th event. Three Classes will be offered on October 2, 9th and 16th at $10 per child or $25 for the three-class package. Professional art educators will teach your children. Participants will go home with their work of art.

Saturday, September 25th: Family Fundraiser 3-6pm
Help support the Art Center and stop by our gallery space for an afternoon of fun and crafts during our Family Fundraiser. Craft tables, cupcake decorating, raffles, and more! Raffle items and art will be for sale. Wednesday, October 13th: Adult Fundraiser 6-9pm For $50 come join our celebration with food, drinks and live music. Young artist work, and teaching artists work will be sold. As well as raffle items. Get to know what we do and become our life long friend!
